Association of Neighbourhood Ladies Get-together (ANHLGT) was formed in 2009 by a small group of 10 to12 women in sectors 22 and 23 under the leadership of Cicily Kodiyan, a resident of Sheetal Vihar Apartments in Sector 23, Dwarka. In 8 years of its existence, the group has more than 3,000 members across the sub-city working for the development of Dwarka.

“The idea struck me during a get-together I was at,” says Kodiyan. “I wanted to form a group for the development of Dwarka. Our goal is for senior citizens, ladies, children, and all residents of Dwarka to work together for the total development of the area. Our association is working towards making Dwarka a green, clean, beautiful, healthy and safe city.”

The members of the association discuss the sub-city’s problems and approach the concerned authority’s offices. Working from the grass-root level, the organisation has brought about several positive changes such as repairing of roads, cleaning of drains, improvement in electrical infrastructure and development of parks.

“We prepare reports of how each issue was dealt with by authorities such as DDA, SDMC, BSES and police. We have dedicated teams to deal with different authorities,” adds Kodiyan.

The association also organises special events for festivals across Dwarka. Promila Malik, joint secretary of the association, says, “We try to inculcate the concept of social solidarity and community responsibility to solve problems that residents face on a day-to-day basis. Every year we organise three major events: Republic Day, Independence Day and AGM. Apart from this, every month we conduct health camps in various sectors of the sub-city. We also conduct get-togethers, games for children and women of various societies. Sports events such as cricket, basketball, table tennis, tennis and football matches are organised in all Dwarka sectors.”
