Runny, slimy, waste-lined streets in Dwarka. Ugh!

With the onset of the monsoons — and South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) not lifting garbage from the dumping spots near residential pockets — Dwarka has turned even more filthy. Societies are also complaining about the rising cases of chikungunya, as mosquitoes breed easily in such dumps.

Vice-president of New Millennium Apartments, Sector 22, MS Suri, said, “Neither is the SDMC managing the garbage, nor are they concerned about fogging or spraying. With the rains and unattended garbage, the situation has turned hazardous.”

Rakesh Godara, president of Om Apartments, Sector 14; and SS Chowhan of Radhika Apartments, Sector 14, Pocket 1, complained that SDMC workers have stopped listening to residents and have become extremely casual in their approach. Chowhan says, “Yesterday, some SDMC officials, including the sanitary inspector and engineers, visited our pocket. They assured us that the garbage would be cleared immediately, but nothing has happened so far and the rains have turned the condition even worse.”

Councillor of Ward 135, Shashi Tomar, says, “SDMC employees are on a strike and this has affected the lifting and disposal of garbage. I also request the RWAs to not use the areas around societies for dumping garbage. They should ensure that the local cleaners, too, don’t dump waste in nearby areas.”
